HistoryIn June 2011 Wargaming.net announced the game World of Warplanes and published an article on the World of Tanks website, the first part of which stated that the gameplay, overall global map, and financial system would be similar to World of Tanks. In August 2011 Wargaming.net announced that the game was in early alpha-testing and opened the official forum. This was followed by a few details about the game as well as a trailer submitted to Gamescom 2011. The alpha version of the game was shown for the first time at Igromir, a Russian sly stealth video game convention. The games's Lead Designer, Ivan Kulbich, a Nikitova Games employee, revealed the developers' plans about alpha testing and its participants. According to DotMMO, the game entered global alpha testing on February 23, 2012. In May of 2012, the game entered closed beta testing, according to the official World of Warplanes website. In June of 2013, it was announced that on July 2, 2013, World of Warplanes would enter open beta testing and would be using tokens as a temporary replacement for gold before its official release. On July 2nd, 2013, World of Warplanes went into open beta in North America and Russian, and on July 4th in Europe. GameplayThe game is developed on the same engine as the World of Tanks, BigWorld, but, according to developers, it will be specially adapted for aircraft. Alpha restrictionsDuring the alpha test, only a certain number of players were allowed to participate. Due to the nature of the alpha test, several restrictions were placed on alpha testers, such as the prohibition of videos or photos being uploaded to the internet without the prior consent of Wargaming staff. Those restrictions present in the alpha are still in place for the closed beta. Several people have been banned from both World of Warplanes and World of Tanks for breaching the non-disclosure agreement, and some are even facing legal action.  These restrictions will be lifted when World of Warplanes is officially released to the general public. On April 4th 2013 the NDA was lifted.  OverviewFights occur in the air. Two teams battle in matches lasting up to 15 minutes. The battles will end when one team's players are eliminated or when one side achieves supremacy by destroying more enemy aircraft and ground targets than the other team. Several of these players are facing legal action. April 04 2013 Non-Disclosure Agreement was dropped for Closed Beta testers, allowing them to distribute information about the game. Amnesty was granted for players who were previously banned for breaching the NDA during Alpha or Beta test.  AircraftWorld of Warplanes will include military vehicles from several key periods in the history of aircraft - from 1930s era biplanes to the jets of the Korean War. The game will allow the player to choose from three basic classes of vehicles: fighters, the most effective in dogfighting; heavy fighters, multi-engine aircraft with a more powerful armament; and ground-attack aircraft, the main hunters of ground targets. For each type of aircraft, there will be several types of weapons and a variety of options for the airframe and engines available. During beta testing phase World of Warplanes will have 60 types of aircraft of German, Soviet, US and Japanese origin. In the future, it is planned to add British and French aircraft with new branches, as well as to add aircraft gradually throughout the course of the game. ControlsThere will be two types of aircraft control - expert and simplified. The same engine supports joysticks and gamepads. Game locationsThe game will be represented by several large gaming locations with dynamic weather conditions that will affect the controllability of the airplane.
